The Track Coach is responsible for the design and instruction of a safe, high-quality, effective and challenging indoor track, outdoor track and cross country program as determined by the class format and description.
Coach must be knowledgeable, professional, motivating, and member-focused.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS and KNOW HOW:
Current certification in CPR/AED for Adults, Children and Infants and First Aid or willing to certify within 90 days Proficient in and able to demonstrate and perform specific components of the program as they relate to the target participant group.
Demonstrate effective public speaking ability and group leadership skills.
High school diploma or equivalent required, college or advanced course work preferred.
Have knowledge of YMCA policies/procedures and current program offerings in department.
Possess good organizational skills, the ability to work effectively with others as part of a team, ability to work independently, and the ability to adapt to a changing environment.
Be customer service focused and willing to go the extra mile.
Must possess interpersonal skills to relate to diverse groups.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:
1.
Design practices and plans that adhere to the designated format and are constructed to be appropriate for the participants' abilities.
Coach scheduled sessions with energy and enthusiasm.
2.
Demonstrate skills being taught, explain them clearly to participants, and work at skill level and intensity level appropriate for the particular session.
coach is to emphasize the members' workouts, not their own.
3.
Frequently and consistently demonstrate multiple movement modifications, and repeatedly encourage members to modify movements and work at their own pace.
Monitor intensity, technique, proper form, and hydration throughout the class.
4.
Consistently utilize clear and easy-to-follow verbal and physical cues in advance of a movement change.
6.
Ensure that the class attendance of each member is accurately recorded in the designated manner.
7.
Begin and end sessionon time.
Be available with proper mequipment set up and ready no less than 15 minutes before class is to begin.
8.
Leave program area in a safe closed-down manner with all equipment and materials neatly returned to their proper places.
9.
Maintain positive rapport with participants (and parents of participants, if applicable).
10.
Conduct sessions in such a way as to encourage member engagement and interaction.
11.
Conduct sessions in accordance with designated YMCA of Sandusky County standards and guidelines.
12.
Notify supervisor of any problems, including program outcomes, impact, tracking, equipment, member service.
Notify supervisor of any faulty equipment or unsafe conditions.
13.
Be responsible for the safety of all participants; knows emergency procedures and the location and proper use of emergency equipment.
14.
Gather periodic participant feedback through distribution of written evaluations provided by the Program Director.
15.
Find a certified and competent substitute if unable to coach assigned sessions.
Notify supervisor of substitute coverage.
16.
Actively promote YMCA programs, special events and Annual Campaign.
17.
Attend required workshops, meetings and training sessions to enhance professional competence and remain current on YMCA of Sandusky County procedures; attend staff meetings as directed.
18.
Maintain professional image through proper dress (as designated in Program Department Policies and Procedures), behavior and attitude.
Common Duties &
Responsibilities:
Be actively and visibly involved with members, volunteers and staff in a positive, friendly manner that communicates and demonstrates the YMCA core values of caring, honest, respect and responsibility.
Follow all established policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety practices and personnel policies.
Participate in and support association events and fund raising activities.
Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
Secure and maintain required trainings and/or certifications necessary for the position.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
